EB 22- Kazunori Fujimoto
Architecture 2003- 2017
Space is the protagonist of Kazunori Fujimoto's architecture.
In terms of its essence, the space is rooted in the deep and intense Japanese spirituality that so attracts Western architects and influences their architectures.
Materiality simply shapes the interior space and its relationship with the exterior.
Japanese architecture has a spatial sensitivity that is capable of intensely defining space through very fine and light elements, sometimes semi-transparent. The same sensitivity can also be found when using other types of materials than the usual ones, as is the case with heavy materials that are more used in the western tradition.
Thus, in Japanese architecture, and especially in the case of Kazunori Fujimoto's architecture, it is possible to find this lightness materialized with reinforced concrete, modeled as if it were paper.
