As Graça Correia says in the prologue:
"His architecture is mostly the result of a great intelligence, marked by a sensitive approach to truly disciplinary matters without falling into dogmas or fundamentalisms. It reveals a great concern, historical, ethical and aesthetic rigor. (...)
He emphasizes the importance of constructive accuracy, less concerned, however, with constructive 'sincerity', and more determined to build a relationship with the place through the strong tectonic expression of his own constructive systems.
The place has an enormous importance for him, out of the regionalist or contextual vision by Kenneth Frampton and, seen from Porto, or from France, Abu Dhabi or New York, it is not a neighborhood, local or Portuguese architecture - he has no country. And once again, as Pessoa said, 'Portuguese people are essentially cosmopolitan. Never a real Portuguese was Portuguese: he was always everything'". Eduardo Souto de Moura is like this.
