Higienópolis (Sâo Paulo)
This is the third book in the SIN PALABRAS collection, which on this occasion Helio Piñón dedicates to the architecture of the district of Sao Paulo known as Higienópolis.
If in the previous two books in the collection, architecture referred to the architecture of Jacobsen and SOM, in this one Helio deliberately introduces us to an anonymous type of architecture, since his idea is to reveal its inner qualities and the instruments and architectural tools used in its design, so as to teach us to look at the results without being influenced by the proper or improper names that could appear as being responsible for their creation.
In this book Helio, breaking with the approach he used in the previous books of the collection, reflected in its name SIN PALABRAS (Without Words), writes to prepare the observer-reader for what he is going to see and to clarify any doubts he might have, such as, for example:
the reason for Higienópolis, the meaning behind the subtitle Visual Moments and the photographs he uses to illustrate his comments. The objective of this book is none
other than to teach us how to look at architecture and to denounce the abandonment of the visual criteria of the Modern Age, which he believes has generated highly anti-cultural visual results.
