The construction is associated with an initiative for providing comprehensive assistance to
elderly people. It is a residence for elderly valid and dependent people. The housing is combined with health and psychosocial assistance for the users, with capacity of up to 140 people.
The project is strongly conditioned by the limited space and budget availability, and it searches to promote the functional aspects of the building, and limited by the severe economy requirements.
The building is restricted to the maximum and mandatory alignment of the plot except towards the South, where a free area and views are to be found. The lower floors are of a more public nature, as they house the general services and common areas facilities. The higher floors are reserved for the rooms, thus ensuring privacy. Apart from the corresponding number of rooms, all of them with bathroom included, each of the three top floors has a geriatric bathroom, a dining room with a pantry and a sitting room. The layout attempts to meet the specific regulations requirements and the experience accumulated by the development company throughout its very long experience. In general, it provides special attention to the functional relationships between the different areas and rooms and to the dimensional and sectorization requirements.
The building is designed on the basis of an elementary construction logistic, with a continuous termination of white single layer mortar on the facades; this base finds its counterpoint with the addition of lacquered metallic paint steel industrial panel cladding on specific elements. The presence of corridor balconies attempts to soften the effect of the basicness of the building and the strict composition of the windows, and introduces an ingredient of pleasantness in its interior and exterior perception. A system of galvanized steel sliding slating fully covers the South facade, the largest and most diaphanous and open in the building, for solar protection and adjustment of the natural lighting levels. Of this facade we can highlight, in any event on one side, a large covered porch on the ground floor; and on the other, the introduction of three large sized viewpoints that are projected out onto the landscape, using the general alignment of the building, giving shape to the gesture of looking outside in the search of certain expansion from the experience of the strict compacting of the inside space.
