EB 23- Pereda Pérez Architects
Pereda PérezEn Blanco nº 23 is dedicated to the work of the Spanish practice Pereda Pérez Arquitectos, founded by Carlos Pereda Iglesias and Óscar Pérez Silanes. The issue brings together five projects developed in different contexts —housing and public facilities— which together reveal an architectural approach grounded in the relationship between idea, construction and time.
The volume opens with a prologue by Alberto Campo Baeza, who describes the projects included in the book as a collection of “five Stradivarius”: architectures that are silent in their form yet powerful in their beauty and constructive precision. In these works he identifies qualities such as rigorous construction, clarity of concept and the ability to endure over time without relying on unnecessary formal gestures.
The projects presented in the publication demonstrate an architecture based on measure, sobriety and material precision. Works such as the La Milagrosa Nursery School in Pamplona, the Relocation Housing in the historic centre of Pamplona, and the Day Care Centre in Quincoces in Burgos reveal a design approach that seeks to respond accurately to the conditions of the place while avoiding arbitrary solutions or superfluous gestures.
The issue also includes the essay by the architects themselves, titled Facing Time, in which they explain their understanding of architectural design as a slow process of reflection, construction and adjustment. In contrast to the speed of contemporary culture, they defend an architecture that requires time to be conceived, built and understood—an architecture that aspires to endure beyond fashion and immediate gratification.
Through texts, drawings and detailed documentation of the projects, En Blanco 23 therefore offers a reading of the work of Pereda Pérez as a rigorous architectural practice in which initial ideas, materiality and construction come together to produce a clear, precise architecture capable of maintaining its relevance over time.
