Lopez CoteloEn Blanco 20 is dedicated to the work of Víctor López Cotelo, focusing on the transformation of the former Military Hospital of Campo del Príncipe in Granada into the city’s new School of Architecture. Awarded the 2015 Spanish Architecture Prize, the project stands as a remarkable example of contemporary intervention within a historic architectural complex.
Rather than approaching the building as a simple restoration, the project proposes a careful reinterpretation of the existing structure, integrating new academic spaces and structural elements into a complex historical fabric. Through a restrained and rigorous architectural language, the intervention establishes a balance between historical continuity and transformation, allowing the new construction to coexist clearly with the existing building.
The issue documents this process in detail through drawings, photographs, and texts that reveal the architectural and constructive decisions behind the project. In addition, several critical essays broaden the discussion on architectural intervention in existing buildings and on the relationship between memory, use, and construction within contemporary architectural practice.
