The site where the Institute is built is irregular in shape and with a sloping topography; The Indoor Sports Court is located on a rectangular and flat plot adjacent to the previous one. The area is consolidated as educational and sports endowment use, but the nearby blocks are not built and endowed as residential use. The competition offered us the possibility of proposing an Architecture-Program-Territory project, which has allowed us to opt for a clear definition of the volume that delimits the territory, assuming the specificity of the site and the relationship between the artificially built and the natural given.
Given the irregularity of the site and its slope (it has a drop of 2.5 meters in the most unfavorable points), our proposal assumes a very clear geometry with a compact building that contains the classrooms and rests on boxes that allow solving the jumps produced by the slope of the terrain. This idea is linked to a careful functional arrangement associated especially with orientation criteria.
The classroom is therefore constituted as a container oriented to the south, pierced by patios and a central void that make possible the adequate lighting of all the classrooms. There are two different areas for secondary and high school, separated by one of the stairwells. “The support boxes” contain the common uses, being located according to their orientation and operation, creating closed and open interstitial spaces, which constitute the circulation areas and places where students meet.
The ordering of these therefore is precise and associated with uses. The center is accessed from the "public square", standing on a platform raised one meter above the playground and the entrance garden. The porch made up of the "box" that contains the administration and the cafeteria, at the far end to avoid possible disturbances and noise to the classrooms, invites us to enter the lobby or "main room", which will visually communicate with everything the building through a void topped with a skylight. The concierge, multipurpose room and library are located around the lobby.
