The state school Fabián y Fuero in Villar del Arzobispo did not have an indoor gym, which was a drawback to the ideal teaching conditions, both because of the low winter temperatures in the locality and because of the strong winds coming from the northwest which were so common in the running track area existing at the time. Moreover, those running tracks were 2.5 m over the school’s slope which meant that both the gym and the running tracks had to be made accessible. Accessibility was achieved with a ramp at the north façade which, far from being a secondary access, extended the course and depth of the gym.

The problem of the wind was resolved by walling up the whole gym, taking into account the direction of the strong wind from the northwest which affected the area. The gym faced south with large windows providing enough sunlight for the room to be used during school hours without the need to switch on artificial lights. The programme of demands to be satisfied is rigid and regulated, nevertheless, it was decided that the project should aim to achieve the greatest functionality. This way, the toilets can be accessed from the playground when the gym is closed, or the toilets and the changing-rooms, keeping the sports hall closed when the centre is used in afterschool hours.
