Alejandro Muñoz Miranda. Architecture
Alejandro Muñoz MirandaThe first monograph devoted to the built work of Alejandro Muñoz Miranda (Granada, 1974), architect and professor of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture of Granada. The book brings together twelve works completed between 2004 and 2026 which, across very different programmes, keep returning to the same concerns: geometry, light and tectonics, the line of thought the author developed in his doctoral thesis with Kenneth Frampton.
The journey begins with institutional headquarters in Granada —the Confederation of Employers of Granada and the UGT and CC.OO. trade union buildings—, continues with the Children's Centre in El Chaparral, Albolote, and the urban scale of the remodelling of Gran Vía de Colón and the Avenida de la Constitución boulevard, and moves on to the funeral parlour in Murtas and two private houses, Agüera and Almagro. Collective housing fills the final section: the rental housing building in Málaga, winner of the Andalusia Architecture Award 2024, the 66 homes with terraces in Estepona and the Alborada residential building in Granada. The book closes with a small hotel at the foot of the Alhambra.
Three texts open the monograph: “A Wind of Stars” by Alberto Campo Baeza; “On the Architecture of Alejandro Muñoz Miranda” by Steven Holl, who describes him as “an inspiring teacher and builder who embodies and carries forward the metaphysical dimensions of his city”; and “Game Boards” by Ángel Martínez García-Posada. Each work is presented with a project description, photography —mainly by Javier Callejas and Fernando Alda— and drawings redrawn for this edition, including sections and construction details. A bilingual Spanish-English edition.
