Alejandro Muñoz Miranda
Architect (Granada, 1974) and professor of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture of Granada. A body of built work grounded in geometry, light and tectonics.
Alejandro Muñoz Miranda (Granada, 1974) graduated in architecture from the University of Granada (1999), receiving that year Spain's First National Award for Outstanding Graduates from the Ministry of Education. He obtained his PhD from the same university in 2011 with the thesis “The Use of Technique in Architectural Conception: Towards a Tectonic Ethic”. During his doctorate he held a university teacher-training research grant and spent a research period at Columbia University in New York under the supervision of Kenneth Frampton.
Since 2007 he has taught Architectural Design at the School of Architecture of Granada, where he has served as Deputy Director for International Relations and, from 2020 to 2025, for Culture and Students. He has taught at Columbia University, the Moscow School of Architecture (MARCH), the University of Podgorica and the University of Texas at Arlington, and is a member of the research group “Architecture and Contemporary Culture” (HUM-813).
As head of Muñoz Miranda Arquitectos in Granada, he has built a body of work that keeps returning to geometry, light and tectonics: the headquarters of the Confederation of Employers of Granada and of the UGT and CC.OO. trade unions, the Children's Centre in El Chaparral, the remodelling of Gran Vía de Colón and the Avenida de la Constitución boulevard, the funeral parlour in Murtas, several private houses and collective housing buildings in Málaga, Estepona and Granada.
His work has been exhibited at the 7th Venice Architecture Biennale (2000), at “Young Architects of Spain” (2008) and at the 12th and 15th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, and was shortlisted for the FAD Awards 2019. He has received the “García de Paredes” Award from the Granada Association of Architects, the Málaga Architecture Award 2020 and the Andalusia Architecture Award 2024 in the Construction and Innovation category. His work has been published in Arquitectura Viva, AV, 2G, Detail, Bauwelt, Mark and Tectónica, among others. In 2026, TC Cuadernos publishes in its Prospectiva series the first monograph devoted to his built work.
