NOARQ. Architecture
NoarqIdentifying, understanding and responding to the specific characteristics of a site are essential steps in José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira's design process. As the founder of NOARQ, he incorporates this approach into all of his projects. His architecture is developed from a careful reading of the context, including topography, landscape and memory, which translates into sober, precise projects that are deeply linked to the territory.
This monograph brings together a selection of works created between 2012 and 2021, offering a comprehensive overview of the architect's recent output. Through a selection of plans, drawings, photographs, and construction details, the book provides a rigorous insight into his design process, in which each decision is the result of a process of refinement and progressive synthesis.
Although his early career was characterised by close collaboration with masters such as Álvaro Siza, Oliveira has developed his own method over time, in which drawing plays a central role. More than a tool for representation, drawing becomes an instrument of thought that accompanies all phases of the project, from initial ideas to the realisation of the work.
The volume opens with an introductory text by Paolo Marcolin and concludes with an extensive interview by Darío Álvarez, in which the architect reflects on his creative process, influences, and ideas.
