This monograph of more than 450 pages compiles and details 25 works made in the last 25 years by the Dutch architect Frits Van Dongen.
From the creation of the studio until his appointment as Government Architect or Rijksbouwmeester (honorary position in the Netherlands with over 200 years of tradition) has produced a large number of architecture and urban planning projects focused primarily on two poles: housing production and buildings for culture.
The buildings of houses fit in the Dutch tradition characterized by its high quality derived from the regulations emerged at the beginning of the 20th century by the new housing needs of the population.
More than half of the projects in this book are housing projects The Whale (217 residences), Funen (565 residences), Landtong (625 residences) or Gangnam Housing District (1,400 residences).

In the repertoire of solutions shown, repetition plays an important role along with diversity, as a primary condition for the generation of quality, creating unique and diverse living environments. This results in an authentic alphabet of housing typologies where each one is essentially different but shares similarities.
As for the cultural buildings, the palette of proposals goes from theatres, a cinema, a concert hall, a music hall, an events room and a conservatory.
The new context of culture, digital communication and the consumption of entertainment gives rise to a return to the origins of the public building as a place of social encounter. This becomes its most important function and it is where Frits van Dongen concentrates his capacity for innovation. Inside, as a space for meeting and shared experience between spectator and artist and on the stairs, as a space for public life and social theatre.
