TC 100- Roldán + Berengué architects
This publication is dedicated to the work of the architectural team Roldán + Berengué, encompassing their production between 1999 and 2011.
With a unique approach, this monograph does not follow a traditional chronological or typological structure but instead organizes the projects into five conceptual chapters: the existing, the topographical, the grand avenue (*lo granvía*), the informal, and the collective. This framework seeks to identify patterns and strategies that transcend the apparent diversity of their work.
Roldán + Berengué views each project as a piece of a larger narrative where past, present, and future intersect. Projects such as the rehabilitation of the Church of Els Trinitaris in Vic and the Primary Care Center in La Garriga exemplify their ability to transform the existing through a sensitive reinterpretation, always in dialogue with the environment.
Since its inception, the studio has primarily worked on projects derived from public competitions. This "culture of competition" has shaped their creative process, requiring them to simulate a dialogue with an absent client and to construct precise architectural narratives. Their projects are presented as plausible solutions that anticipate and respond to the complexities of the site and the program.
The studio defines its practice as an intermediary between the site and its transformations. Each project serves as a point of connection, interpreting, reconfiguring, and often redefining the context in which it is situated. This attitude is reflected in their approach to public space design, where they aim to foster social interaction and create dynamic settings for daily life.
