Gabriela Carrillo
Gabriela Carrillo, born in Mexico in 1978, is a distinguished architect renowned both nationally and internationally for her innovative and committed approach to architecture. Founder of Taller Gabriela Carrillo in 2019, she has created a collaborative and interdisciplinary space dedicated to developing architectural projects that deeply respect the territory and value cultural and social diversity. This studio is characterized by its ability to integrate detailed observation, recognition of context, and a deep sensitivity to material and sensory elements in construction.
Before establishing her own studio, Carrillo co-founded the c733 collective and was a partner at Taller Rocha Carrillo for over nine years, where her work was noted for its focus on public projects and its significant social impact. With more than twenty years of experience in the profession, she has been honored with multiple awards, including the Emerging Voices Award in 2014, the Federico Mariscal Chair, and the Médaille d'OR from the French Academy of Architecture. In 2017 and 2020, she was named "Architect of the Year" by Architectural Review in London and Architectural Digest Mexico, respectively.
Gabriela has played a crucial role in academia since 2003, serving as a professor at the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM, where she currently leads the research and graduation seminar Estudio RX. Additionally, she has taught at prestigious institutions such as Harvard GSD, Kent State University, and the WAVE program in Venice, Italy. Her work has not only been recognized at numerous national and international biennials and triennials but has also been widely published in prominent global media.
