Óscar Miguel Ares. Contextos de Arquitectura y Urbanismo
Óscar Miguel Ares Álvarez is an architect, architecture critic, educator, and curator born in Valladolid in 1972. Throughout his career, he has proven to be an architect who designs as he is, with an approach focused on generosity, care, effort, and humility. Ares graduated from the Valladolid School of Architecture in 1998 and obtained his doctorate from the University of Valladolid in 2010 with a thesis on GATEPAC (1928-1939). Since 2013, Ares has been a project professor at the ETS of Architecture in Valladolid and has been a guest lecturer at various national and international architecture schools.
Since March 2012, Ares has practiced his professional work under the brand Contextos de Arquitectura y Urbanismo. His architecture is characterized by an approach committed to the rural environment and small population, away from the establishment. In his manifesto, Ares expresses his connection with depopulated Spain, advocating for spatial justice and balance in the opportunities for facilities, healthy cities and towns, care provisions, and energy resources.
In addition to his work as an architect and educator, Ares has been the director, alongside Anna and Eugeni Bach, of the XV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism "Empty Spain / Full Spain; reconciliation strategies" (2021-22), participating in the various juries of the awarded categories.
