The author explores the workshop as an interior place, the workshop as a refuge, the workshop as a testing ground for modern living, as a constructed myth, as a paradigm of assimilation between the common man and the artist. In analyzing the comparison between artists 'houses and workers' houses, the author considers the design of the house as proof not only of the technical and constructive possibilities but also of the new conditions of modern life.
