Inhabiting Inspiration, Building the Myth.
Jorge Tárrago MingoArtists' workshop-houses in the interwar period
In this book, Jorge Tárrago, deals with the architecture of the house as a space for the construction of a myth. He addresses the issue of the home-workshop as a place for dialogue between work and lifestyle, between man and nature. He studies the close collaboration between the artistic avant-gardes and the architecture of the early twentieth century, the new solutions proposed for the house-workshop as a specifically modern project. The author explores the workshop as an interior place, the workshop as a refuge, the workshop as a testing ground for modern living, as a constructed myth, as a paradigm of assimilation between the common man and the artist. In analyzing the comparison between artists 'houses and workers' houses, the author considers the design of the house as proof not only of the technical and constructive possibilities but also of the new conditions of modern life.
