Housing and Climate in Spain
This book addresses the challenge of designing collective housing in Spain that meets both architectural quality and climatic requirements.
Through a detailed analysis of 32 projects built between 1999 and 2019, it asks fundamental questions about sustainability, the relationship between architecture and energy, and the ability of buildings to actively interact with their climatic environment.
The authors interrogate standard approaches to sustainability and promote an inclusive vision in which climate strategies not only serve energetic functions, but also enrich the cultural and spatial experience of architecture.
Organized by climatic region, the book combines technical and cultural analysis to provide a comprehensive study of projects from envelope to interior, including aspects such as orientation, cross-ventilation, and typological design.
Each project file includes scale drawings, construction diagrams, and climate performance analysis, allowing for an in-depth understanding of how architecture can adapt to the diverse conditions of the Iberian Peninsula. The selected examples stand out both for their architectural excellence and for their innovative strategies in terms of comfort and energy efficiency.
Beyond its technical character, Housing and Climate is a call to rethink the impact of architecture on the environment and on people's daily lives, exploring a path towards what the authors call "post-sustainability". This book is a must for architects, urban planners, and any reader interested in the future of collective housing and how design can be reconciled with the climatic urgencies of our time.

The final energy consumption of the building represented approximately 31% of the total consumption at a national level by 2016.
In this context, and from an energy point of view, it is evident that there is a need to achieve a more efficient building. This energy efficiency is achieved in a logical way, focusing on the passive aspects that limit the energy demand of the building.
While it is true that today we place special emphasis on the energy efficiency of buildings, it is important to see how architecture, good architecture, has never been alien to it.
