The new headquarters of CTAA occupies a former residential building dating from the early 19th century in the heart of Alicante, overlooking a square with magnolia trees. The concept suggested itself organically from the building formula to be applied. Demolishing the interior of the building proportioned a better understanding of the original volume as a powerful, abstract container for the new construction. The actual structure consisted of reinforcing the existing outer walls and introducing a “services box” which also acts as the building’s sole pillar. On another note, two separate voids create a diagonal space connecting the public floors of the building and, in turn, helping to order the different uses outlined in the brief. The remaining uses were compartmentalised using glass partitions or furniture. The façades were subjected to a neutral treatment, respecting the original building solutions in order to accentuate the essence of its composition.
