TC 148 brings together the work of Linazasoro & Sánchez from 1994 to 2020, offering a precise reading of an architecture deeply committed to the discipline. Through built works and competition entries, this issue not only documents a trajectory, but also reveals a coherent theoretical position grounded in concepts such as order, memory, construction and pre-existence.

Far from any nostalgic approach, José Ignacio Linazasoro’s architecture is rooted in the idea of order as an internal system, capable of structuring the project through composition, construction and space. This order is not understood as a closed model, but as an active memory that survives in contemporary architecture and is reactivated in each intervention.

The relationship with what already exists is one of the central themes of this issue. Projects such as the Escuelas Pías or the churches in Medina de Rioseco and Valdemaqueda reveal a critical reading of pre-existence, avoiding both literal reconstruction and superficial contrast, and instead establishing a balance between continuity and autonomy.

This position takes shape in what Linazasoro calls “critical construction”, in which traditional systems are reinterpreted through a contemporary logic, giving rise to an architecture that is refined, precise and essential. In this context, structural order acts as the project’s generative principle, organising space, scale and its relationship with the surroundings.

Monumentality, meanwhile, does not appear as a formal gesture, but as a quality that emerges from materiality, proportion and spatial experience, built through movement and gradual perception.

As is customary in TC Cuadernos, the issue includes a carefully curated selection of plans and construction details that allow for an in-depth reading of the projects, together with interviews that provide the theoretical framework needed to understand a body of work that reaffirms the autonomy of architecture.
