EB 11- Sacred Architecture
En Blanco 11. Sacred Architecture explores one of the most significant fields in the history of architecture: the construction of spaces devoted to spirituality. Through a selection of contemporary projects and critical essays, the issue reflects on how present-day architecture responds to the challenge of designing places of contemplation and meaning within contemporary cultural contexts.
Religious architecture has historically functioned as a field of experimentation in which new spatial and constructive ideas have been developed. In this issue, a number of projects demonstrate how contemporary architects explore the potential of exposed concrete, light, and materiality to create atmospheres capable of intensifying the experience of sacred space. The relationship between structure, void, and light thus becomes a key instrument for shaping places of silence and reflection.
Alongside the architectural projects, several essays examine the role of sacred architecture in contemporary culture and its ability to reinterpret liturgical and symbolic traditions. The result is a publication that offers a broad perspective on contemporary religious architecture, understood as a field in which materiality, space, and meaning are closely intertwined.
