10 Perhaps a new concept of space is needed, and with it a new way of doing and thinking about architecture; it is appropriate to begin to develop other tools for designing a new concept of comfort, and with it other ways of living. Tropical thinking in architecture is also a way of meeting the challenges of our time outside the tropics. Hotter summers and torrential rains, floods and heatwaves are just a small sample of the human impact on climate cycles, rendering many existing buildings and regulations obsolete. Their ability to be comfortable and energy efficient in these conditions is more challenging due to their form and materiality. Every day we get closer to living in a tropical Mediterranean and a more Mediterranean North, so the day will soon come when you can drink excellent Danish wines, which would be a catastrophic indicator in climatic terms. Colombian architecture can be a useful reference for these times. On the one hand, more than 60 years of internal conflict have produced A resistant practice and a socially necessary architecture in the face of the vicissitudes of a battered and fragmented society, instrumental to bottom-up and top-down processes, making it a point of technical, social and environmental confluence. With responsible architects who are aware of the value of the public sphere, without necessarily abandoning disciplinary interests or being careless about the details and the role of design; who are aware of the need for social infrastructure to be of high quality - with the available resources - because these are the places where the inhabitants, regardless of social class, purchasing power or ideology, meet and build a common fabric. 1. BRICOLAGE AND PRAGMATIC TROPICALISM. Given its biodiversity and climatic diversity, with temperatures below 0°C and above 40°C, with jungles, glaciers and deserts, plains and plateaus, coasts and mountain ranges, architecture necessarily responds in a specific way to each of these contexts. This architecture produces an eclectic and sometimes naive positioning, lacking a clear identity, but in its understanding of the possible combinations of architectural elements, it builds a solid and timely response to variable climates and complex social relations, always maintaining a notorious spatial generosity.
